TravelKonnekt is a community app for Australian travellers, run by the TravelKonnekt founding team. This page says what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect the little we need to connect you with the people around you, we never sell it, and you can delete the lot whenever you like.
What we collect
- Your email address. It is how you sign in. No passwords.
- The profile you choose to share: your first name, your rig, where you are from, what you can offer, what you are after, and your interests. You decide how much goes in.
- Where you have stopped. The town and park you tell us you are staying at, and your journey of past stops. If you let the app use your device location, we check it only when you open the app, to work out which town you are in. Never in the background.
- What you do in the community: posts, chat messages, callouts, gatherings and RSVPs, gems, tips and town notes you add to towns, connections you record, notifications the app sends you, and your contribution points.
- Reports and blocks you make, so the team can keep the community safe.
- Sign-in cookies and similar, kept on your device so you stay signed in.
The AI helpers, and what they keep
The app has two AI helpers. The Guide answers questions about the town you are in. The Sounding Board is a private companion for whatever is on your mind. Both are AI, not people.
When you use them, your message is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the reply, and that processing can happen outside Australia. Sounding Board conversations are not stored by us, anywhere. When you close the conversation, it is gone. We keep a count of what each conversation cost to run, and nothing of what was said. If you are ever unsafe, skip the app: call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Callouts and gatherings
A callout is a hand up: help wanted, or help offered. When you post one, it is visible to people at your park or in your town, and it expires on its own after a while. Gatherings work the same way: the gathering you post, and the names of people who have said they are coming, are visible to the people around you. RSVP to a gathering and your name sits on its list until you take it off or the gathering passes.
Gems, tips and town notes
When you add a gem or a tip to a town, it stays with that town for the travellers who come after you, shown with the date you were there. The town notes work the same way: a note you write while you are in a town becomes part of that town's permanent record, shown with the date and your first name. Town notes can only be written by people who are in the town at the time.
Notifications
We store the notifications the app sends you (a reply, an RSVP, a callout near you) so the app can show them to you when you open it. They are deleted with your account.
Listing counts
We count how often a business or event listing is opened, so the businesses and towns taking part can see the app is worth their while. These are anonymous tallies, never tied to your name.
Who can see what
- People in the community can see your profile, your posts, and what you write in park and town chats.
- 1:1 messages are visible only to the two people in them.
- The small TravelKonnekt team can access community content and account details when needed for support and safety, for example when something is reported.
- Councils and parks see community numbers only, never your private messages: things like how many people joined and took part.
Where your information lives
Your account and community content are stored with Supabase on servers in Sydney, Australia. The app itself is hosted by Vercel, and AI replies are generated by Anthropic; both may process data outside Australia while doing their job. We share your information with no one else, and we never sell it.
Deleting your account
Open your Journey page and tap “Delete my account”. That permanently removes your profile and everything tied to your name: posts, messages, callouts, RSVPs, notifications, journey and points, and anything the app adds later that carries your name. There is no undo. Gems, tips and town notes stay with their towns for the travellers after you, with your name taken off them. Community-wide tallies (like how many connections a town has made) keep their counts, but with nothing that identifies you left in them. If you would rather a human did it, email hello@travelkonnekt.com and we will do it for you.
Questions or complaints
Email hello@travelkonnekt.com and a human will get back to you. If you are not happy with our answer on a privacy matter, you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
